President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy met with the new UK Secretary of State for Defence, Wes Streeting.
The Head of State thanked him for making his first visit to Ukraine at such a difficult time, which is an important signal of support for Ukrainians.
“It is a pleasure to meet you, and I am very grateful to you. I thank your Prime Minister and the people of the United Kingdom for their tremendous support. We are very proud that our relations are truly strong and that we respect one another,” the Head of State noted.
Wes Streeting said that it was an honor for him to be in Ukraine, to convey a message of his country’s ironclad and unanimous support, and to meet with Ukrainian first responders, military personnel, and civilians.
“I am very pleased that you were our Prime Minister’s first guest. I think this sentiment is shared not only within the British government but, as you know, across all parties in the House of Commons and throughout the country. I know that during your many visits to Britain, you have felt just how deep the support is for your leadership personally and for your people,” he said.
The President informed Wes Streeting about the consequences of Russia’s massive attacks, including the attack last night.
“Last night is yet another signal that, ahead of winter, we need unity and strong support from your country and from our other European friends. It is also a signal that Russia is sending to us and to the world that it does not want to stop. And I think they want to continue and escalate further by using ballistic missiles,” Volodymyr Zelenskyy noted.
The Head of State emphasized that the main priority today is anti-ballistic defense and finding ways to provide it. Ahead of winter, the aggressor plans to increase its production of ballistic missiles significantly. Ukraine is counting both on its partners and on developing its own capabilities to protect lives. This primarily involves creating an anti-ballistic system, but that takes time.
During the meeting, the parties discussed opportunities for the joint production of certain types of weapons.
Special attention was paid to sanctions against Russian enterprises involved in producing ballistic missiles. The President emphasized that every effort aimed at weakening Russia’s war machine and its reliance on ballistic terror matters.
