President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy took part in the first burial ceremony for Ukrainian warriors at the National Military Memorial Cemetery, located in the Kyiv region.
The Head of State received a report from the spokesperson of the Ministry for Veterans Affairs, Hennadii Popenko. The cemetery already has sections for honorary burials, two columbaria, engineering networks, and an access road. For visitors, a parking lot and a regularly operating shuttle service have been arranged. The President arrived today using this shuttle.
A separate area of the cemetery is designated for the burial of warriors whose names are not yet known. A Linden Alley is also being created here – a symbolic road of memory.
A distinctive feature of the memorial is standardized burials. Initially, a temporary cross will be installed, inspired by 15th–16th century Cossack monuments, and after one year, a permanent gravestone in the form of a cross or plaque will be placed. The final design will be chosen by the family of the fallen.
Today, five defenders whose names are currently unknown were laid to rest. Burials of unidentified heroes will continue at the cemetery.
The ceremony was also attended by the Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada, Ruslan Stefanchuk; Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Oleksandr Syrskyi; Deputy Prime Minister for Restoration of Ukraine – Minister for Communities and Territories Development, Oleksii Kuleba; Minister of Defense, Denys Shmyhal; Minister for Veterans Affairs, Nataliia Kalmykova; Minister of Internal Affairs, Ihor Klymenko; and Deputy Head of the Office of the President, Pavlo Palisa.
The memory of the fallen warriors was honored with a moment of silence.
