President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy held a meeting with Latvian Defense Minister Raivis Melnis, who is visiting our country on his first trip abroad since taking office.
The Head of State thanked Latvia for supporting Ukraine from the very beginning of Russia’s full-scale invasion.
“We are glad that we can have a Drone Deal and other cooperation between our countries, when we can share our experience with our close allies,” Volodymyr Zelenskyy said.
The Latvian Defense Minister noted the importance of Ukraine’s experience in countering any aerial threats.
“We have supported Ukraine and continue to support it with training and our expertise since the very beginning. And now we are asking Ukraine to support us, because there is only one country in the world who knows how to fight Russia, how to stop Russia,” Raivis Melnis said.
Special attention was given to cooperation with partners within the European Union, NATO, and the Joint Expeditionary Force (JEF).
In addition, they discussed Latvia’s participation in the SAFE instrument to finance joint weapons production with Ukraine.
The President also thanked Latvia for advocating for Ukraine on its path to the European Union and NATO. According to the Head of State, Ukraine is counting on the opening of the first negotiating cluster, “Fundamentals,” as soon as possible.
