President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy signed a decree enacting the decision of the National Security and Defense Council on imposing sanctions against Russian academics, heads of bodies of the so-called occupation administrations, as well as organizations that support Russia’s aggression, spread propaganda, are involved in the distortion of historical facts, and in the theft of cultural property and documents of the National Archive Fund of Ukraine.
Among the 29 sanctioned individuals is Russian propagandist Aleksandr Chubaryan, a co-author of a school Russian history textbook that, in the style of Russian propaganda, justifies Russia’s aggression against Ukraine. Also included are Russian pseudo-historian and adherent of the “Russian world” Alexei Miller and Artem Lagoysky, who betrayed Ukraine, began serving the occupiers, and headed the so-called “Ministry of Culture of the Kherson Region,” assisting the Russians in everything – from adopting the “documents” necessary for the invaders to violating the rights of Ukrainians.
Ukraine also imposed sanctions against 15 Russian organizations and bodies of the so-called occupation administrations involved in supporting Russian aggression and the occupation of Ukrainian territories, falsifying historical facts, stealing cultural property from museums and reserves of Crimea, appropriating documents of the National Archive Fund of Ukraine, and using them for the benefit of the aggressor.
“We introduced sanctions against cultural colonization – against those who for decades distorted the history of Ukraine and imposed imperial narratives. This is not a matter of culture as such, but a component of hybrid warfare aimed at undermining our identity and statehood,” emphasized Advisor – Commissioner of the President of Ukraine for Sanctions Policy Vladyslav Vlasiuk.
