President of Ukraine

Speeches

Our joint counteraction to coronavirus in Ukraine is continued. Today is Sunday, but we work to provide the country with everything it needs, we work to protect the lives and health of our citizens.

We understand the top-priority needs of all regions and work around the clock to meet these needs. It's not just about personal protective means and medical equipment. This includes the work of critical objects in the regions, support for small businesses, continuous social payments to the population, and ensuring a spring sowing campaign. We will also do our utmost to prevent the increase in prices of essential products and goods in the regions.

Coronavirus actually takes the masks off people. Because someone is ready to help by giving the shirt off his back. And someone is willing to line his pockets from human misery. Increases prices, keeps masks in warehouses, tries to sell respirators abroad. All these actions will receive not only a moral assessment of society, but also a legal assessment of the relevant law enforcement agencies.

We will do our best to provide every citizen of Ukraine with personal protective equipment, rapid tests, disinfectants.

Today, 57 flights return 11.5 thousand Ukrainians home. Our citizens who were stuck in Austria and Sri Lanka are among them. The flight from Vienna has already returned our people to their homeland at 13:30. Some Ukrainians from Sri Lanka have also returned already. The rest will have arrived in Ukraine by the end of this day.

Grocery stores, pharmacies, gas stations, banks, insurance companies and all government agencies operate. Special thanks to the Verkhovna Rada, which is not under quarantine. MPs work in committees, and if it is necessary to pass urgent laws they can quickly assemble in the assembly hall. The country has not stopped, the country is working.

China's experience shows that unpopular and tough decision overcome the virus and save lives. The experience of other countries shows that softness and liberality are allies of coronavirus. Therefore, we will act in a tough, urgent, perhaps unpopular manner, but for the sake of one thing - life and health of Ukrainians.

A decision was made to introduce a number of measures for the safety and health of Ukrainians. It can’t be "too early" in the issue of life and health of Ukrainians. It may be too late. That is why we act decisively and proactively.

This is the first government where there is no top corruption. But no stealing is not enough.

Today, we honor the feat of the Heroes of the Heavenly Hundred who gave their lives for the European choice of our people, democratic values, the opportunity to live with dignity and to build a better future.
