Ukraine and Lithuania Agreed to Deepen Cooperation for the Return of Children Abducted by Russia

Deputy Head of the Office of the President of Ukraine, Iryna Mudra, and First Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine, Sergiy Kyslytsya, held a meeting with Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania, Gabija Grigaitė-Daugirdė, and Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Lithuania to Ukraine, Inga Stanytė-Toločkienė.

Iryna Mudra and Sergiy Kyslytsya expressed gratitude for Lithuania’s unwavering support of Ukraine and its efforts aimed at holding war criminals accountable and restoring justice.

During the meeting, the parties discussed the development of effective mechanisms to return Ukrainian children who were illegally deported and forcibly relocated by Russia. This is one of the key issues that the President of Ukraine has instructed the Office team and the diplomatic corps to intensify their efforts on.

The sides agreed to deepen cooperation and involve other countries. In particular, this concerns foreign monitoring of temporarily occupied territories regarding the impact of propaganda on children, pro-Russian patriotic re-education, filtration camps, and the return of children to Ukrainian-controlled territory.

Special attention was also given to finalizing the establishment of a Special Tribunal and a Claims Commission to review claims from those affected by Russian aggression, as well as creating a Compensation Fund, which will serve as a source of payments to victims. There is an agreement to work together on exploring ways to redirect frozen Russian assets for Ukraine’s benefit and to secure alternative sources of funding.

Additionally, the discussion covered Ukraine’s path toward European integration and strengthening sanctions pressure on Russia and Belarus, including the adoption of the EU’s 19th sanctions package.

Gabija Grigaitė-Daugirdė assured that Lithuania will continue supporting Ukraine and will further facilitate the investigation of Russian crimes and the holding of Russia’s political and military leadership accountable.
