President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy held a phone call with Federal Chancellor of Germany Friedrich Merz.
The Head of State thanked Germany for its decision to allocate more than €11 billion in assistance to Ukraine in 2026 and for its contributions to the PURL initiative. Separately, Volodymyr Zelenskyy noted Germany’s support for the European Union’s decision to allocate €90 billion for Ukraine for 2026–2027.
“Germany has been providing us with significant assistance from the very first days of this war. This is a tremendous contribution to saving the lives of Ukrainians and to our ability to defend ourselves against Russian aggression. Friedrich demonstrates true leadership, and I greatly value our coordination,” the President emphasized.
The Head of State noted that Europe is becoming stronger through joint steps and Germany’s support for Ukraine’s defense, which is one of the largest in many respects.
“It is the German Patriot and IRIS-T systems that are protecting a substantial part of our energy infrastructure and our cities. There is also an important energy support package already in place. Every such step makes Ukraine stronger,” Volodymyr Zelenskyy noted.
The leaders discussed further cooperation and agreed on joint work among states and partners in Europe next week. The President thanked Germany for its willingness to assist in Ukraine’s reconstruction. Volodymyr Zelenskyy and Friedrich Merz agreed that their teams would work through all the necessary steps.
