President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy held a phone call with Prime Minister of Canada Mark Carney.
The Head of State thanked Canada for its support of Ukraine, including military and financial assistance, and the sanctions imposed on Russia.
Volodymyr Zelenskyy informed the Canadian Prime Minister of the current defense needs of Ukrainian warriors. The two leaders discussed the strengthening of air defense with additional systems and missiles, as well as increased funding for joint drone production, especially interceptors.
Particular attention was focused on the need to exert pressure on Russia, primarily through sanctions. The President and the Prime Minister discussed the introduction of new sanction decisions that could strip Russia of its ability to finance the continuation of the war.
Volodymyr Zelenskyy and Mark Carney addressed the outcomes of last week’s meeting in Istanbul between the Ukrainian delegation and the Russian side. During the talks, Ukrainian representatives once again stressed the need for a ceasefire to stop the killings and strikes on civilian and critical infrastructure. The President noted that Ukraine is still awaiting a response to its proposal to hold a leader-level meeting by the end of August.
Mark Carney expressed support for the President’s bill that guarantees the independence and effectiveness of Ukraine’s anti-corruption institutions and prevents any interference or influence by Russia on their work. The leaders agreed that it is now crucial for the Verkhovna Rada to pass the bill in full on July 31.
