At the National Chornobyl Museum, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy held a meeting with IAEA Director General Rafael Grossi.
The Head of State thanked the IAEA Director General and his team for their visit to Ukraine on the 40th anniversary of the Chornobyl disaster. The President noted that holding the meeting at a museum dedicated to the Chornobyl disaster is highly symbolic and serves as a reminder of the true cost of the devastating consequences of a nuclear accident.
Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated that Ukraine is aware of Russia’s efforts to formalize and legitimize its presence at the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant. According to the President, this is unacceptable, and for safe operation the plant must be returned to the management of Ukraine’s licensed operator and nuclear regulator.
They also discussed temporary shutdowns of nuclear power plant units, reductions in their output, and the potential consequences of these criminal actions.
Volodymyr Zelenskyy and Rafael Grossi agreed to continue IAEA missions to ensure continuous monitoring of the plant’s condition.
