Volodymyr Zelenskyy and Recep Tayyip Erdoğan Discussed the Current Diplomatic Situation

President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy held a phone call with President of Türkiye Recep Tayyip Erdoğan.

The Head of State thanked Türkiye for hosting the Ukrainian delegation in Ankara, for its mediating role, and for organizing the meeting with the Russian side in Istanbul. He also thanked Recep Tayyip Erdoğan for his personal efforts to achieve a just and lasting peace.

The President of Ukraine also expressed gratitude for Türkiye’s support of our country’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, as well as for its warm and sincere attitude toward Ukrainians.

The leaders discussed the current diplomatic situation and the opportunities it presents. The President of Türkiye stated that any negotiations without Ukraine will not bring lasting peace. Volodymyr Zelenskyy and Recep Tayyip Erdoğan share the same understanding of all potential risks and threats, and agreed that a simulated rather than genuine peace will not last long and will only encourage Russia to further seize territory.

The Head of State stressed that Ukraine is ready for any meeting format in order to stop the killings and end the war. The President of Türkiye confirmed his country’s readiness to host a summit of leaders with the participation of Ukraine, the United States, Russia, and Türkiye.

In addition, the leaders discussed high-level events that Ukraine is preparing during the UN General Assembly. The parties agreed that their teams will work together on Türkiye’s participation.
