Ukraine offers Europe to create a full defense system capable of protecting its borders and infrastructure and countering drone threats. President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated this while addressing participants of the meeting of the heads of state and government of the European Union in Cyprus.

On 23 April, President of the European Council António Costa, President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen, and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy held a trilateral meeting in Lefkosia, before the informal meeting of the EU Heads of State or Government.

The leaders discussed deepening joint defense production, particularly in the priority area of drones.

The Head of State thanked Lithuania for its continued defense assistance. Lithuania plans to make a new contribution to the PURL initiative and is ready to cooperate with Ukraine within the SAFE instrument.

Before the start of the special meeting of the heads of state and government of the European Union in Cyprus, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy held a meeting with President of the European Council António Costa and President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen.

President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy held a meeting with Spain’s Minister of Defense, Margarita Robles, to discuss joint weapons production and defense support.

Volodymyr Zelenskyy received a report from representatives of the Bring Kids Back UA team, Oleksandr Bevz and Maksym Maksymov, on the results of the initiative’s work.

President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy held a phone call with Federal Chancellor of Germany Friedrich Merz.

Volodymyr Zelenskyy and Ursula von der Leyen agreed to examine these matters in detail and coordinate next steps during an in-person meeting.

The Head of State emphasized that Ukraine has delivered on what was requested by the European Union.
